NUANS Preliminary Search

Also known as a pre-search, this is a manual search of the NUANS database and compares your proposed name with existing  Corporate, Business and Trademark names that may be similar to yours.

The NUANS preliminary results are dependent on Database updates and variations in the criteria used to search the proposed name (manual vs. electronic).  This means there exists the possibility of encountering possible conflicts that may not show up on the preliminary when the full NUANS search is ordered.  Having said that, the preliminary is still an excellent way to eliminate general names or "direct hits" before incurring the full cost of a NUANS. 

Pre-checks do not include businesses/incorporations in the Quebec jurisdiction and do not reserve the name for 90 days.

Preliminary searches are not acceptable for filing with the Articles of Incorporation
